They used to love having so much to lose
Blink your eyes just once and see everything in ruins

While Finn was not the most studious kid in the world, or the most intelligent, or the most focused, he did enjoy practicing his powers. Currently he was in the best building to accomodate his abilities, in the basement to be specific. But it was just the sort of place where Finn felt most at home. Underground in the lowest level of the basement for one, with a faint smell of fromaldahyde, and the only light was coming in through vents in the ceiling. And that light itself traveled through a large tunnel before reaching the vent in the ceiling. All and all, Finn sort of felt like he was in the batcave, and that was pretty cool. His big black hoodie had been hung on a hook a couple hundred metres away and his shoes sat beneath that, and he'd pulled his long black hair up into a high ponytail, his long bangs pushed behind his ears. He stood outside of a predetermined square of chalk about a metre on each side, dressed in a pair of baggy black jeans, a checkered black and gold belt, and a form fitting black t-shirt rubbing his hands together.

He looked down at the square and frowned a little. Damn spirits, always around when he didn't want them, never around when he did. Finn's ultimate goal for today was to open a passage to the spirit world, if only for a few seconds, and possibly get a spirit to rise out of it. He could get them to appear at the drop of a hat, but he could only ever open a passage for about a fraction of a second before, and he could never control the size. Finn took a deep breath and then closed his eyes, feet flat and firm on the ground. Okay, he could do this, he could make a definite gate. Perhaps one day he'd be able to travel back and forth from that place at will. Well, that would take a hell of a lot more work, and it would probably be painful at times as well.

He dropped his hands to his side and then flexed them a little, feeling a weired rush of power encircling him like some invisible cyclone. It was an exhilirating feeling, and he felt this deep, inner sense of self when it happened as well. Then he opened his eyes, and they emenated a striking deep purple glow, which began to form as well along the lines of the square. The light began to intensify, growing far more luminous and causing a long shadow to stretch behind Finn. If one were to come across it, it would have the same glow where Finn's eyes were, and have quite obviously the head of a jackal, though Finn himself hadn't changed at all. A wind began to pick up as the inside of the square lit up as well. The ground began to rumble ever so slightly around him and a skeletal pair of hands began to dig its way out of the earth in front of him. It was a remarkably evil looking scene, though it was not malevolent at all. Just incredibly grandious, and dark. Finn was proud of himself, he was maintaining all of this incredibly well. He did his best to maintain his concentration as phantom shapes began to appear around him. Other spirits were coming to watch.

KAZI && RAIJU
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
An Asian boy, student of the school, descended the staircase toward the basement with a calm disposition. He was comfortably dressed in a short sleeved, white t-shirt with a black tie and even a pair of black jeans, unnecessarily accented with a white belt just for the sake of appearance. In his arm, a wiggling kitten was trying to escape his grasp; it wasn't going well for him. Ooh well, Kazi was certain he'd give up eventually, and he wasn't changing his plans for a kitten who got his way more often than not. Besides Kazi hadn't been down here yet and it seemed essential that he explore the school while he could before he was bogged down by pointless classes. He had nine of them, just shy of his limit. While other kids took on less, he was basically ensuring that he would be anything but bored. They were fun classes, though, which he wouldn't have chosen if he hadn't had an interest in them. In fact he'd even had to opt out of taking music class because of how many classes he was already undertaking. Not that a silly kitty had to worry about that. Lucky kitty.

Raiju continued to squirm against Kazi. The basement? No no no! Definitely not where Raiju wanted to go. It was spooky and cold there! Kazi liked the cold, he liked winter, liked the rain, and he liked the wind. Not Raiju, a nice day laying in the grass with the sun shining on his fur was just fine with him. Raiju gave up trying to escape by the time they got to the middle of the staircase. Instead he relaxed against Kazi. He couldn't win this fight, and he knew it.

Kazi wasn't expecting to stay in the basement long. Just look around, then let the cat go to race back upstairs, leading him somewhere else. Kazi's eyes grew wide as he noticed the ground shaking and a purple glow around a boy. Now, Kazi knew where he was, he knew this place was supposed to be a school for gods, but he wasn't expecting this. The skeleton looking figure that was emerging from the ground in front of the other boy had Kazi worried. What was this? The shapes suddenly appearing sent a shiver down his spine. Maybe he should run now. . .No. He'd scare him. That was it. Setting the cat down- who no longer wanted to run, and merely crawled onto his foot- he brought his hands together. Instead of an echoing clap, there was a loud rumble of thumder, seemingly very near, if not over the school by the volume of the sound. Once he'd made the noise he dropped his hands to his side, his body tense as he watched the other boy. He wasn't sure what he was going to do when he got the boy's attention, but hey, he was making it up as he went. If it came to it, he could shock the kid. Like a cop using a taser, it was something. Scared by the sound and by Kazi's own mood, Raiju meowed before placing his paw over his head as though to hide himself.

Thunder. Had he made that? He didn't know, but he was sort of ignoring that at the moment. He'd almost summoned a full dead person, not just a spirit. Finn stared up at the creature in front of him in awe. He almost had the entire skeleton out of the hole. This was incredible, he could hardly believe that he'd managed to hold it open this long. He could start to feel drained, and as the cluster of spirits began to materialize to the visible eye he could feel his strength seeping from his body. He looked at the hole. It was flickering. Okay. It would probably be smart to quit while he was ahead. He stared at it, his eyes wide, and bit his lip, looking at the dead person almost out of the Underworld after who knew how long. He grimaced and heaved his shoulders, his eyes still glowing. "Sorry big guy, but I don't think I can afford to keep you alive. I don't wanna pass out. Better luck next decade." he replied, and then in a second the gate had shut, and the skeletal dead person vanished.

He looked around at the ghosts who were now standing completely visible in the room, eyes wide. "Oh my GOD, DID YOU GUYS SEE THAT!" he cried with a childlike vibrance. He actually jumped a little bit, as the glowing receeded. The ghosts just sort of shrugged at him in a chorus of things that only he could hear, although their lips appeared to move. It was mostly along the lines of 'close but no cigar', and 'meh, well, hold it open longer next time, I wanna go there.' Then as they began to fade away a couple of them pointed to the real apparent source of the thunder, and Finn's eyes widened. An Asian boy, and a cat. He stepped back a little bit, pulling a bit of a disgruntled/vaguely worried face. "Ummm...hi?"

Well, that hadn't worked. Okay. So, now what? His plan making stopped when he realized there were spirits. Ah-oh. That was anything but a good sight. Good thing they didn't seem interested in him. Now, that living skeleton thing? It didn't matter if it was interested in him or not, it was beginning to feel like Frankenstein. Really. Victor Frankenstein, pushing the laws of science- no, no, shattering them completely. When Finn talked, Kazi jumped and closed his eyes tightly; he didn't want to see the person look at him, as though he'd known he was there all along. Fortunately he wasn't talking to him, was he? Aford to keep him alive? Oh god. Kazi stopped breathing, listening to the boy's words very carefully. Why would he pass out? That wasn't important! Kazi tried to keep his mind from straying as he prepared himself for an eminent death.

Raiju clawing at his leg got him to exhale and open his eyes to glare at the kitten. On the other hand, it made him realize that he wasn't dead and that the skeleton was gone. Ohh, okay. Kazi was still nervous but not as much as before. He wasn't out of the woods yet; the boy started talking again. See what? Kazi wasn't sure what he missed, but he got the impression that he didn't want to know, either. His eyes didn't stray to the silent ghosts, but stayed on the boy. Well, okay, didn't stray until he was being pointed at. Kazi shook his head in protest, taking a step back as though he could hide himself. It didn't work.

Hi? He was in league with ghosts and living skeletons! He was, as far as Kazi was concerned, a modern day Victor Frankenstein, and he was saying hi? Well, when in Rome, hope your plan doesn't bring about ruins. . .

"Hello. . ."Kazi agreed skeptically. "You're name. . .isn't Victor is it?"

Well, usually people didn't seem to come down to the basement while Finn was down there, because typically he came up with the good idea to do it at night when people were less likely to show up and be scared shitless. Because it appeared that he'd managed to do that to the Asian kid, who apparently made thunder. He folded his arms and bit his lip, scratching the back of his head, moving backwards a little to pick up his coat from the hookie thingie and put on his shoes, looking at the boy apologetically to him. And then the guy asked if his name was Victor, and like an idiot, Finn didn't get the reference. His brow furrowed a litte as he looked at him with a definite quizzical air. "No...My name's Finn, and I'm sorry you had to see that. I usually practice at night." he replied with a bit of a grimace. Finn hadn't had a good sleep the night before, and so he'd decided to go to bed early that night, because nobody wanted a cranky reborn-Anubis running aroumd. That would just end badly.

This guy seemed seriously wigged out, and he felt sort of bad. Because Finn really had no problem with being an antagonistic fuck, but he didn't like the idea of being feared on principle. But then again, he had a bit of an intimidating set of powers, he knew that. So he just looked at the guy rather sheepishly. "Whatever you're thinking, I swear it's not true, and if you've heard any rumours those aren't either." It was sort of surprising to Finn that he found his own abilities to be as natural as the sun rising in the morning, but then again, they were his powers. Someone else seeing them must have been all kinds of messed up. Finn felt really...disturbed by the idea of someone being fully afraid of his powers, and seeing it out in the open like that really felt...bad. But he wasn't about to let that get the best of him. He knew people talked sometimes. And the only people who seemed to understand it were the other death gods. That really kind of sucked.

Finn? Well, okay, strike Frankenstein off the list. . .Then again, Kazi wasn't that easily convinced. If only someone worshiped the doctor, then the pieces would have fit quite snugly. When the other boy apologized, it did surprise Kazi. He was sorry? Really?

"Uh. it-it's fine."Kazi stammered, more surprised by the apology than by what he was saying. Of course it was a lie, it wasn't fine, and he was still a bit wary of the guy. But no harm, and Finn seemed pretty calm now. No more freaky summoning of the dead. And, best yet, Kazi was certain that all was right with the world again. Kazi was fairly certain that the kid could offset the balance of nature by tricks such as the one he pulled. That wasn't all that appealing, surprisingly enough.

Raiju on the other hand, after looking around the room and ensuring nothing threatening was there any longer, was curious about the new person. He hadn't been scared of him so much as he had been scared of the ghostly presences he sensed. And now that they were gone, could it not be so that Finn was as innocent as Kazi? Kazi was down there, yet he didn't bring the ghosts. And Finn didn't leave with the ghosts. So Raiju disassociated Finn with the ghosts entirely. He carefully stepped off of Kazi's shoe to timidly approach Finn. Surely Kazi'd save him if he ended up being threatening. Hopefully. For now Kazi seemed not to notice Raiju at all.

"I'm Kazi,"Kazi introduced, trying his best to sound somewhat calmer than before. It wasn't working, he still sounded nervous.

He could tell that this poor guy was really wigged out over what he'd seen, and Finn didn't like that. It made him feel rather upset that he could so easily scare the hell out of people. But then again, he had just tried to summon a dead person from the bowels of the underworld, and this guy had witness the multitudes of spirits that came to watch. He grimaced a little more and slumped his shoulders a little bit. He scratched the back of his head. "Oh...ummm...alright. Good to see that I didn't rattle you that badly." he mused with a soft pout. Yeah, he really wasn't all that bad, once you got to know him, apetite for chaos and running around or not. Finn's gaze fell down to the little cat that seemed to inch forwards towards him. Animals semeed to be more in tune with peoples' inner nature. Which made him feel really good. Nice little bugger, the cat seemed to be.

He bent down and picked up the little creature, looking down at him with a gentle smile. "This yours?" he asked, looking the small cat over. It was cute, but cats usually weren't all that fond of him. They could typically sense that he was well, a jackal apparently at heart. That was one thing that scared Finn. Jackal at heart. And potentially one day Jackal from the neck up. That was a horrifying thought. He at least wanted to be able to change back and forth, but he didn't know if that would happen. A shudder went down his spine, and then he looked back at the boy, who was apparently called Kazi.

"Oh yeah? Well...I guess it's nice to meet you, Kazi."
